About Us
Domingos de Lechazo (Roast Lamb Sundays) is an initiative that arose in response to the situation created in our region by the COVID crisis. It originated with the Diario de la Ribera newspaper, and since then, other businesses and individuals have joined in, contributing their efforts by offering sports classes, psychology talks, lectures on local culture, health advice, and more.
Why did this project originate from a newspaper? Journalism is about seeing what happens and reporting it. It's about taking action if you can contribute to the common good. In our newsroom, we saw and reported on stories related to the problems facing our livestock industry. As a result, we decided to help the sector in the only way we know how: by mobilizing people.
A newspaper is a living entity. We report the news, but we feel so connected to Aranda and the Ribera region that we launched Domingos de Lechazo (Roast Lamb Sundays). We are Begoña, Andrés, Enguel, Roberto, Marga, Irene, María, Julio, Manuel, and Rober—local people who coordinate projects to help local people. No political parties or anything like that involved. Just a desire to help each other.
And to enjoy a good quarter of suckling lamb!
LIVESTOCK SUPPORT
Hundreds of families are economically dependent on the lamb sector. Shepherds, small farmers, transporters, meat companies, restaurateurs, waiters and many more, because in small societies we are all connected. What happens to our neighbors affects us in one way or another.
Every day, in our region and in our restaurants hundreds of lambs are served. Those that are bought here will come from farmers in our area and a decent price will be paid for them. They will be roasted in a wood oven in our restaurants and distributed by local distribution companies.
Arandinos and riverside people are very proud of our culture and our traditions. That is why we defend them, and that is why we help our own.
